penticton bus picParkway Elementary Grade 5 students were the first riders of the new Vicinity Bus - which picked them up at school and brought them to the Penticton Community Centre for the celebration. Kids were asked to envision the "Future of Transit" and depict that in drawings as part of a contest. Three winners were selected, and the children received BC Transit speakers. All children received BC Transit pens, Penticton Community Centre pool passes and celebrated with some cupcakes.

The Vicinity Bus is operational in Penticton this week, and the smaller and more efficient technology is anticipated to save $34,000 a year. Vicinity is a medium-duty bus that seats 23 people, can accommodate 16 standees and two wheelchairs/scooters. It has a low floor and "kneeling capacity" to ensure accessibility.
