BC Transit looks at it as a win-win situation.

The Vicinity Bus debuted in Kelowna today as BC Transit shops the vehicle around smaller communities across the province, including Squamish, Prince George  and Quesnal.

BC Transit President and CEO, Manuel Achadinha says the bus will cut costs by half and fuel consumption by 33 per cent while increasing capacity.

"Its got 23 seats in it, room for 16 standing, so room for 39 passengers in total. One of the challenges we have right now is we have a community shuttle vehicle that only has 24 seats in it. There is no flexibility, once you reach the limit, that's it."

The Vicinity is just over 27 feet long compared to the current model of 40 feet.

The cost of the bus ranges from 250,000 to 280,000 depending on it's features.
